Halfway through a repair and out of hardener at four on a Saturday? Mixed-to-code automotive paint, aerosols, primers, fillers, adhesives, abrasives and the consumables that run out at the worst moment. Automotive refinish paint is a two-component system in which basecoat carries the color and a catalysed clearcoat provides gloss and ultraviolet protection. Every price on this page came off our own Dallas stock list in August 2026.

What we keep on the shelf
- basecoat mixed to code
- clearcoat and hardener
- aerosol touch-up in your code
- etch and epoxy primer
- high-build primer surfacer
- body filler and glaze
- panel bonding adhesive
- seam sealer
- abrasives and sanding discs
- masking film and tape
Terms you will hear at this counter and on the phone: PPG, 3M, Evercoat, isocyanate, VOC. If any of that is unfamiliar, ask, because getting the vocabulary right is half of ordering the correct part.
Six things worth knowing before you order
- Two-component clearcoat contains isocyanates. A dust mask does nothing against them and a supplied-air or properly cartridged respirator is not a suggestion.
- Etch primer goes on bare metal, epoxy primer goes over etch or bare metal, and high-build goes over epoxy. Get that order wrong and the whole panel lifts weeks later.
- Body filler has a working life measured in minutes and a shelf life measured in months. Hardener that has gone dark in the tube will not kick properly.
- Aerosol touch-up mixed to your code beats anything off a rack, and it is the single most requested thing at our counter after bumper covers.
- Panel bonding adhesive is not the same as seam sealer and it is not the same as urethane. Three different products, three different jobs, and people mix them up constantly.
- Sanding discs are consumables people under-buy. Running a loaded disc is how you burn through e-coat and put swirl marks under fresh clear.
- Reducer comes in temperature grades, and using a fast reducer on a hot Dallas afternoon is how a panel ends up with dry spray across the top edge.
- Waterborne basecoat needs moving air rather than heat to flash, and a garage with the door shut in August will not flash it at any temperature.
- Guide coat is a two dollar step that shows every low spot before primer goes on, and it is skipped constantly on amateur jobs.
- Abrasive grit sequence matters more than the brand does. Jumping from 180 to 400 leaves scratches that show up through the clear a week later.
- Seam sealer comes in brushable, self-levelling and gun grade, and using the wrong one on a floor pan seam looks obviously wrong to anyone who has done it before.
- Masking film static-clings to the panel and paper does not, and the difference matters most on the interior surfaces of a door opening.

What pushes materials to the top of the range: tri-coat and pearl codes, low-VOC waterborne systems, high-solids clears, and any colour that has to be tinted by hand rather than poured straight off the formula.
Can you mix automotive paint to my car's code?
Yes. Bring the paint code from the driver's door jamb tag and we mix basecoat, aerosols or full quart and gallon quantities to that code at the counter.
What primer goes on bare metal?
Etch primer or a direct-to-metal epoxy primer goes on bare steel, and high-build primer surfacer goes over the top of that rather than directly onto the metal.
Is aerosol touch-up paint good enough for a small repair?
Aerosol touch-up mixed to your paint code is good enough for chips, small scratches and a mirror cap, and it will not blend across a whole panel because there is no way to control the fan pattern.
Before an adjuster tells you otherwise
Texas Insurance Code Section 1952.301 prohibits an insurer from limiting your coverage by specifying the brand, type, kind, age, vendor, supplier or condition of the parts used to repair your vehicle, and Section 1952.302 prohibits an adjuster from telling you that you must use a shop from a preferred list. The statute is public and it is short. Read the whole subchapter here, or read the section numbers back to whoever is on the phone. Working on the same corner of the car? Automotive Paint & Body Supplies questions we get asked
Do I need a respirator to spray clearcoat?
Yes. Two-component clearcoat releases isocyanates, which a paper dust mask does nothing to filter, and repeated exposure causes permanent respiratory sensitisation.
How long does body filler stay workable?
Body filler stays workable for roughly three to five minutes after the hardener is mixed in, and less than that on a hot Texas afternoon in an uncooled garage.
What is the difference between panel bonding adhesive and seam sealer?
Panel bonding adhesive is a structural two-part epoxy that holds a panel on, while seam sealer is a flexible non-structural bead that keeps water out of a joint.
