Door skin caved in at the crease line, or a floor pan you can see daylight through? Complete door shells, bare door skins, floor pans, patch panels and flat sheet by the piece, cut to size at the counter. A door shell is the complete welded door structure with the outer skin already attached; a door skin is the outer panel alone, crimped over an existing frame. Every price on this page came off our own Dallas stock list in August 2026.

Terms you will hear at this counter and on the phone: 18 gauge steel, 20 gauge steel, weld-through primer, Goodmark, seam sealer. If any of that is unfamiliar, ask, because getting the vocabulary right is half of ordering the correct part.
Six things worth knowing before you order
- A door skin is cheaper than a shell but only worth it when the inner frame is straight, because the frame is what carries the hinge and latch loads.
- Most reproduction patch panels come in 20 gauge where the factory used 18, which is thinner than the original and needs a lighter hand on the welder.
- Weld-through primer on the mating flanges is not optional. Bare steel sandwiched between two panels in Texas humidity turns into rust bloom inside a couple of summers.
- We cut flat sheet at the counter with no minimum, because half the rust repairs that walk through the door need one odd rectangle and nothing else.
- Cab corners and dog legs are the two panels people underestimate, since the rust that shows on the outside has usually already eaten the inner brace behind it.
- Door check straps snap and everybody replaces the hinge instead. The strap is the part with the spring-loaded roller and it is a fraction of the cost.
- Side intrusion beams are welded inside the door shell and they are the reason a shell costs what it does. A skin has no beam and no structural role.
- Door hinges on most vehicles are welded to the A pillar and bolted to the door, so a sagging door is usually the door-side bolts and the check strap rather than the hinge.
- Trunk floor sections and spare wheel wells rust from the inside out because the drain plugs block, and by the time it shows in the boot it has gone through.
- Dog leg panels at the bottom rear of a door opening are structurally connected to the rocker, and a rusted dog leg means the rocker needs looking at too.
- Panel bonding adhesive has a working time of around ninety minutes and a clamp time measured in hours, so a bonded skin is not a job that gets rushed at four on a Friday.
- Cutting a floor pan out without bracing the shell first is how a car comes off the jack with the doors no longer closing.

What pushes a panel to the top of the range: door shells with the intrusion beam already welded in, panels for body styles that ran a single model year, and anything stamped in 18 gauge rather than the usual reproduction 20.
Should I buy a door shell or just a door skin?
Buy a door skin when the inner door frame is undamaged and the outer panel is the only thing creased, and buy a complete shell when the frame, hinge mounts or latch area took the impact.
What gauge steel are aftermarket patch panels?
Most reproduction patch panels are stamped in 20 gauge steel where the factory panel was 18 gauge, so they are noticeably thinner and burn through faster on a MIG welder.
Can I rivet and bond a patch panel instead of welding it?
Panel bonding adhesive with rivets is an accepted repair on non-structural outer skins, but a floor pan, rocker or cab corner carries load and should be welded.
Before an adjuster tells you otherwise
Texas Insurance Code Section 1952.301 prohibits an insurer from limiting your coverage by specifying the brand, type, kind, age, vendor, supplier or condition of the parts used to repair your vehicle, and Section 1952.302 prohibits an adjuster from telling you that you must use a shop from a preferred list. The statute is public and it is short. Read the whole subchapter here, or read the section numbers back to whoever is on the phone. Working on the same corner of the car? Doors, Body Panels & Sheet Metal questions we get asked
Do you sell sheet metal by the piece?
Yes. We cut flat repair sheet to size at the counter with no minimum order, which is what most rust repairs actually need.
How much is a replacement door in Dallas?
A bare aftermarket door shell for a common Dallas sedan runs $185 to $390 at our counter, while an outer door skin for the same car is $54 to $120.
Why is my new floor pan not sitting flat?
A floor pan that will not sit flat usually means the rusted section was carrying more load than anyone realised and the body has relaxed, so the shell needs bracing before the old metal comes out.
