A condenser is the air conditioning heat exchanger mounted ahead of the radiator, and it is the first component damaged in almost any frontal impact. Radiators, condensers, fan assemblies, core supports and the mounting hardware, sized for a Texas summer rather than a Michigan one. Counter prices for every variant are in the table below, next to what a dealer parts department charges for the same thing.

What we keep on the shelf

Terms you will hear at this counter and on the phone: aluminum core, receiver drier, PAG oil, R-1234yf, transmission cooler. If any of that is unfamiliar, ask, because getting the vocabulary right is half of ordering the correct part.

Do I have to replace the condenser after a front-end collision?

Replace the condenser whenever the fins are folded or the frame is bent, because a condenser with restricted airflow will not shed heat and the compressor pays for it.

Does a bigger radiator help in Texas heat?

A thicker core with more rows genuinely helps a vehicle that tows or idles in traffic, but only when the fan shroud still seals against it, since airflow matters more than core volume.

Do I need a new receiver drier with a new condenser?

Yes. The receiver drier is a desiccant canister that saturates the moment the system is opened to atmosphere, and reusing one puts moisture straight back into the new condenser.

Before an adjuster tells you otherwise

Texas Insurance Code Section 1952.301 prohibits an insurer from limiting your coverage by specifying the brand, type, kind, age, vendor, supplier or condition of the parts used to repair your vehicle, and Section 1952.302 prohibits an adjuster from telling you that you must use a shop from a preferred list. The statute is public and it is short. Read the whole subchapter here, or read the section numbers back to whoever is on the phone. Working on the same corner of the car? Radiators, Condensers & Cooling Parts questions we get asked

Are aftermarket radiators as good as OEM?

A quality aftermarket aluminum radiator matches OEM core dimensions and row count, and the difference that actually shows up in service is tank plastic quality and the crimp seal around the core.

How much is a radiator in Dallas?

An aftermarket radiator for a common Dallas commuter car runs $68 to $160 at our counter, against $280 to $700 for the dealer part.

What is R-1234yf and why does it matter?

R-1234yf is the low global warming potential refrigerant used in most recent vehicles, and its service fittings are physically different so an R-134a condenser and an R-1234yf one are not interchangeable.
